About us

Our Team

Henk and Robyn first crossed paths in 2003 while working in the professional cycling circuit. Observing cyclists frequently complaining about pain, they noted two common grievances: blame on bike positioning or the rider’s own body. This sparked their realization of the crucial need for collaboration between the therapist and the mechanic to optimize bike fit, reducing pain and tension for riders. This professional synergy soon blossomed into a personal connection, leading to their marriage in 2006.

Having always been surrounded by animals, their profound love for dogs, cats, horses, and the occasional rescue animal was a key reason they decided to step back from full-time travel with professional sports. This shared passion ultimately inspired the creation of H&R Total Therapies. Their strong partnership is evident in their work; while Robyn is often more visible, Henk’s indispensable behind-the-scenes contributions ensure they function as a cohesive team, mirroring the supportive dynamic they aim to foster within their practice.

Heta Harju

Originally from Finland, her passion for horses led her to move to the Netherlands, where she has immersed herself in the equine industry. With a background in agricultural training, she has gained extensive experience in various facets of horse care and management.

Her journey in the equine field includes roles as a groom and home rider for professional show-jumpers, where she developed a deep understanding of the competitive aspects and the daily rigors of equine care. She is currently involved in a study on the Tellington TTouch method for animals, which focuses on techniques to improve the behavior, performance, and well-being of horses through a specific form of gentle bodywork and movement exercises.

In addition to her studies, she assists Robyn daily and is actively involved in rehabilitation services. Her work includes electro stimulation therapy, soft tissue therapies, and stretching exercises designed to help horses recover and maintain optimal function.

She is here to support Robyn and ensure the best care and management for the horses and her beloved canines, leveraging her skills and passion to contribute to their health and performance.

Johanna Karlsson

Johanna, a proud Swede, embarked on an adventurous journey from the picturesque landscapes of Sweden to the vast opportunities of America, fueled by her passion for horses. In the U.S., she worked extensively with jumpers and mastered the art of 4-in-hand combined driving. Her journey eventually led her to Belgium, where she not only found love but also a fulfilling life with her husband, three beautiful children, and a farm that keeps them connected to nature.

Holding a degree in animal nursing, Johanna’s quest for knowledge didn’t stop with her initial education. She delved deeper into the world of rehabilitation, anatomy, and physiology through a rigorous 600-hour Level 2 program in canine functional osteopathy at Animal Osteopathy International (AOI), where she earned a diploma in clinical competence. Mondays and Thursdays, Johanna is working with the horses. Every day is a learning experience for her, and she is immensely grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Robyn absorbing her invaluable insights and expertise in the field, which is also reflected in her daily routine with the horses under her managment at the farm.
